OUTREACHING THE COMMUNITY

CASP implements Community Development Programmes for the weaker sections of the society, especially to women, children, senior citizens etc. Community Organization is effected through Community Partnership a unique feature of CASP, which needs to be highlighted.

A glance of our Community outreach………..

CASP believes in the strategy… of providing avenues for the people to come up with their own ideas and views to sholder responsibilities…an excellent move to bring in effective partnership…

Crucial stages involved in organizing a community

It starts with the need assessment through socio economic survey and formation of Ayalkoottams (also called Neighbourhood Groups-NHGs)
Each Unit consists of 30-40 families who identify two persons as the group representatives.
The representatives of each unit then assemble to form a people’s organization, (Village Development Committee-VDC).

Women Empowerment…. Made a reality
To cite an example- in one of the very impoverished communities in Ernakulam District i.e. Kadamakudy islands, the women folk were organized by CASP to involve themselves in income generation programmes. For this purpose training was provided in various skills like, tailoring, catering etc. Presently SHG’s in Kadamakudy that have been trained by the Taj Residency in Bakery and Confectionary are manufacturing bakery products and which Taj Residency itself is purchasing.

Services for Senior Citizens

Day Care Centre - Kothad,…..a shelter to relieve the golden memories of yester years.

The Day Care Centre functions every Tuesdays and Fridays. The Senior Citizens with a turnout not less than 50 everyday gather there by 10.00 AM. They have informative as well as interactive sessions guided through trained social workers. The volunteer facilitates the routine activities as Prayer, News Paper Reading, Entertainment Programmes and Discussion.
Service of a Doctor is also made available in the Day Care. An opportunity for clarifying their doubts regarding health problems, providing medicines for common illnesses etc.

A Model Day Care Center

The component of peoples participation: The Day Care Centre was constructed in the Panchayat land, with the community support in the form of cash, kind and manpower. Also a government aid of Rs.10, 000/- each year, is being received from the Panchayat for providing food for the members of the centre. As an added blessing, the State Bank of India, Ernakulam, contributed to the cause by sponsoring an Autorikshaw for the Day Care Centre, which now runs to take the aged to the Day Care from their homes.

Drinking Water Project-Tapping the Natural Resources

Drinking Water Projects cater to the needs of the community with different technologies. Three models are implemented taking into account the nature of lands.

KOTHAD MODEL-Kothad, the island community of Kadamakkudy Panchayat is also blessed with natural water resources, but it is a deplorable fact that the water is unfit for drinking purpose. Here a project for scientifically purifying the available water sources was successfully launched. Maximum beneficiary participation was ensured in the project at every step of implementation. Similar projects have been implemented in Kadamakudyi.

MUNDANMUDI MODEL-This project is implemented in Mundanmudi, a village in a high range by collecting natural source of water in big man-made ponds and using the natural flow it is collected in big tanks and distributed to the households through hoses.

RAIN WATER HARVESTING

THURUTHOOR MODEL-The middle level land, Thuruthoor, has potable water available in specific areas only. From there, it is collected in overhead tanks and is distributed .

Housing & Sanitation Scheme

922 houses have been constructed in Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Idukki district. Project at Thuruthoor, Alacode and Mini colony at Fort Kochi is a model for community participation in solving the shelter problems.

The people of Kothad got the credit of the first village in India with 100% sanitation for 371 households.

230 sanitary latrines were provided to selected families of Kadamakudy Island at the rate of Rs. 5, 000 per latrine. This project was implemented under the name of Rotary-Kadamakudy Village Development Project collaborating with 6 Rotary Clubs of Kochi.

Solar Electrification Programme-the first of its kind in Asia
Kerala’s hill stations are blessed with scenic beauty but not with electricity and other communication facilities. Mundanmudi, one among such high altitude stations has been electrified with an ultra modern and eco-friendly technology of solar power to serve the underprivileged community. 393 houses were electrified using solar energy, of course with community support and beneficiary contribution.
